Made by Weihrauch, the renowned German airgun company, the R1/HW80 is arguably the most written about airgun to date. This airgun excels at every task from plinking to hunting. Weighing 8.3 lbs and requiring only 34 lbs. cocking effort, a shooter can use this rifle for plinking all day long without tiring.
The Beeman R1 is available in .177, .20 and .22 caliber and Right and Left Handed configuration, so you are sure to find a caliber to match your needs. And shooters will find that all three available calibers offer more than enough power for their hunt or pest control purposes. The HW80 is simply the European version imported to the U.S. which features the same action but isn't quite as fancy in the stock and it has a shorter warranty period. It is available only in .177 and .22 Right Handed configuration.
The famous R series trigger is standard on the R1/HW80, providing all the quality and fine adjustability shooters have come to expect from Beeman airguns.
Our opinion? We found this rifle easy to shoot with very good accuracy right out of the box. The rifle, typical of many new airguns, felt a little rough for the first few tins of pellets but after the initial airgun break-in period of 1000-1500 shots, it settled down to become a very smooth shooter.
We gave this gun a very consistent rating of 4's and 5's. This air rifle will perform well, no matter what the task at hand. This gun is extremely versatile so if you only intend to have one airgun, consider the R1/HW80 to be one of your top choices. And don't forget the many after-market modifications available for the R1/HW80. Additional options such as a Theoben gas spring (our favorite), spring and trigger tunes make this an airgun with a long lifespan.
All in all, the R1 should provide a lifetime of fun for the lucky owner. After all, there is a reason why the R1/HW80 is the standard to which all other spring airguns are compared.
